Angels Announce Agreement With Orthopaedic Specialty Institute
ANAHEIM, CA – The Angels today announced the club has reached a multi-year agreement with the Orthopaedic Specialty Institute (Orange, CA) and has added board certified orthopaedic surgeons Dr. Robert Grumetand Dr. Michael F. Shepard to its medical staff. The announcement was made by Angels General Manager Jerry Dipoto.
“For the past 36 years the Angels medical team has been among the most respected and consistent in all of Major League Baseball,” Dipoto said. “2014 marks a new beginning for our medical program and we are pleased to join with OSI in our continued pursuit of excellence in the field of sports medicine. The people, their experiences and facilities are all top notch, while the leadership of Dr. Grumet and Dr. Shepard will impact our organization in many positive ways for years to come.”
Dr. Grumet is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. He specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder, knee and hip with a special emphasis in cartilage restorative procedures and hip arthroscopy. He earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees from USC and completed his fellowship training at the prestigious Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. He has participated as one of the team physicians for the Chicago White Sox, Bulls and multiple semi-professional, university and high school sports teams and has had extensive experience in caring for athletes at all levels.
Dr. Shepard is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty training in sports medicine with special emphasis on the care of the overhead athlete and knee ligament reconstruction. His clinical expertise includes elbow and shoulder injuries of the overhead athlete, elbow arthroscopy and complex knee reconstruction. A graduate of UC Davis and the UCLA School of Medicine, he also completed a fellowship in sports medicine with world renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute. He is a team physician for the USA Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Teams and accompanies them during their international competitions. He is also a team physician at UC Irvine, Chapman University, Santa Ana Junior College and multiple local high school football teams.
